CODES AND STANDARDS TRAINING INSTITUTE (CASTI) INC. COMMENCES COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT ACTION AGAINST KINETIC INSPECTION & TESTING AND TODD SMITH
Edmonton, AB, January 26, 2018 – Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) Inc., provider of training programs in the field of engineering codes and standards, has filed and served a Statement of Claim in the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench listing 1250793 Alberta Ltd. operating as Kinetic Inspection & Testing and Todd Smith, who was formerly a CASTI instructor, as defendants.
The action alleges that the defendants infringed upon CASTI’s copyrighted materials, among other causes of action, including breach of contract. The copyrighted materials were developed with substantial investment by CASTI over its 35-year history and include unique instructional design only found in CASTI training programs to teach engineering codes and standards and prepare candidates for certification exams.
The defendants deny CASTI’s assertions and have filed a Counterclaim. CASTI is nevertheless confident that it will prevail in both its lawsuit and the Counterclaim.
